PGA Championship moving to May, shifting golf's majors in 2019

Rory McIlroy hasn't won a major in three years and expectations are higher than ever.

Quail Hollow returned to the PGA Tour schedule in 2003, though it went through some dramatic changes in recent years. He hoped to move the FedEx Cup Playoffs away from the start of the National Football League season. Spieth enters the week looking to complete golf's grand slam with a win at Quail Hollow. He has finished in the top 5 in his last two tournaments.

Other future PGA Championship sites already announced include San Francisco's Harding Park in 2020, Kiawah Island in 2021, Trump National Bedminster in 2022 and Oak Hill in 2023. His length off the tee will be a huge plus, but he needs to improve his iron game to fully contend.

Players and fans raved about Eagle Point, but there are no current plans to bring the Wells Fargo back to Wilmington.

And he has never felt more at ease.

McIlroy is comfortable at Quail Hollow Club, having won here twice.

"In no way, shape or form do I think I'm anywhere near that, whatsoever". He has four top 10s in his past six events and led the U.S. Open for most of the first few rounds.

'Obviously they've redone a couple of the holes and the layout is a little bit different but I'm excited to get back.

The American would become the youngest victor of a career Grand Slam should he do the business in Charlotte this week. Phil Mickelson hasn't won a tournament since 2013, which is why the 47-year-old is at 40-1 in Las Vegas. But there are differences.

Spieth said his putting has not been up to his usual lofty standards recently, apart from that late purple patch at the British Open where he was five-under from the 14th to 17th.

The switch to May should mean somewhat cooler weather than the traditionally hot and humid dog days of summer, and Bevacqua said it would allow the PGA to consider venues in the southern USA that previously had been off the table. "I think that's where Jordan doesn't have to deal with that coming into this week".

You just keep chasing it. "I played with him the first two days (at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational) and the way that he is driving the golf ball, if he continues to do it, he just has a massive advantage over the field". He considered McIlroy's age (28) and how many more opportunities he had in front of him. He was fifth last week in Akron, fourth at Royal Birkdale and seventh at The Masters. You can also get Rory at -164 against Fowler (+120). He ranks No. 3 behind McIlroy and Justin Rose in scoring average in the past five years at Quail Hollow.

Johnson believes his game is close to where it was before the injury.

Dustin Johnson plays a shot during a practice round prior to the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club. He has been unable to make an impact at the big events, finishing tied for 54th at the British Open, tied for 56th at The Players and missing the cut at the U.S. Open.

The 99th PGA Championship also marks the 100th major start for two veteran stars, four-time major champion Ernie Els of South Africa and five-time major victor Phil Mickelson, the US left-hander who needs only a US Open to complete a Career Slam. "You don't really have to have your best game and you still feel like you have a chance to win".
