Adrian Peterson: Exchange with Sean Payton over running routes

Tuesday, 12 Sep, 2017

The night will be electric, especially because longtime star running back for the Vikings, Adrian Peterson will be making a return to Minneapolis, but for the Saints! The data is curious in itself, but it is even more unusual if we consider that the Vikings had no choice of first round.

Given a surplus of time behind his reworked offensive line, Sam Bradford turned in what might have been the best of his 16 starts with the Vikings, hitting 27 of his 32 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns.

At first, Peterson said the brief exchange, video of which circulated on the Internet during the game, was "confidential" and "just communication".

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram (22) and running back Adrian Peterson (28) during training camp at the Metairie Training Facility. His longest rush, nine yards, came on the first play of the game.

Also, Saints tackle Zach Strief was knocked out of the game with a knee injury, adding to growing offensive line issues.

"We didn't do anything different or try to out-trick them", Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr said.

New Orleans has won the last four consecutive meetings between the two teams with the last one being a 20-9 victory at the Superdome in September, 2014.

"I didn't leave anything on the table", Peterson said.

We knew the rookie was going to be good, but his debut on Monday night was record-breaking.

"We'll keep that confidential but, uh, yeah", Peterson said.

Additionally, Peterson was caught by the ESPN cameras trying to get head coach Sean Payton's attention on the sideline. IF Bradford has time to work and a clean pocket, he could decimate a Saints secondary that needs to be adequate if New Orleans wants to compete this year. "There was (no issue) that I can recall, and I'm being honest", Payton said. In addition to Peterson's poor night, Kamara had 18 yards on seven carries, while Ingram had six carries for 17 yards. "Listen, I'd tell you if we were in a heated exchange, so why don't you ask him". But at the end of the day, I think we can learn a lot from this film after watching it. Moss, who played for Minnesota in eight of his 14 seasons, spoke emotionally about his connection to the team and its ownership, and he was honored even further by the play, and attire, of Diggs. The home standing Vikings dominated New Orleans from the first quarter until the final second ticked off the clock.

New Orleans signed Peterson, a former NFL MVP and three-time NFL rushing leader, as a free agent in the offseason to pair with Ingram, Alabama's 2009 Heisman Trophy victor who was a 1,000-yard rusher last season.
