Raiders Offense Shows its Potential in Victory Over Jets

Monday, 18 Sep, 2017

That has to make the Jets anxious as they come into the game against the Raiders with a number of injuries while Oakland has only three names left on their injury report, and all practiced in some manner this week for the game. So maybe the local fans are accepting this season's Raiders as Mark Davis' lovely parting gift.

NY looked outmatched in that one, which isn't encouraging considering the fact that Buffalo pretty much hosted a garage sale just before the season and dumped off two of their best players.

Even if the Jets did move to 0-2 on the season there were positive takeaways from Sunday.

McCown hit Kearse over the middle for an 11-yard touchdown with 8:42 remaining, and Raiders kicker Giorgio Tavecchio hit a 29-yard field goal with 25 seconds left. They want to work on that and this game is a good time to do it. One of the Jets' few solid players is defensive lineman Leonard Williams.

Then again, it's a wonder Lynch wasn't flagged for excessive celebration or taunting.

Still it's National Football League action, and no one knows what could happen on any given Sunday - so tune in.

Speaking of this week, I will be looking for the Raider pass rush to make its presence felt. They were the first pair of rookie safeties to start in Week 1 in Jets history. All told, they surrendered 410 total yards, putting the team in a 14-0 hole and wearing down in the fourth quarter.

Oakland on the other hand looked much better. They allowed six plays of 20 yards or more and the two long runs for touchdowns. This week, with it being the home opener, coupled with his performance last week, he (we hope) will rectify that situation in a major way. It is hard to imagine the Jets keeping the game close unless the Raiders begin to turn the football over.

Earlier this week, the Houston Texans went on the road to OH to play the Cincinnati Bengals on NFL Thursday Night Football. "So that's been my mindset, really, since I came in". I look forward to the return of Beast Mode.

Outside of Conley, both wide receiver Amari Cooper and linebacker Cory James were removed from the Raiders injury report and practiced in full on Thursday and Friday.

Khalil Mack could break Derek Thomas' sack record in this game with McCown in his sites and against that Jets offensive line. "I can't stand that baseball part of the field". It was kicker Giorgio Tavecchio, who was only called into duty this week because longtime kicker Sebastian Janikowski was injured. However, that is in the some what distant future. "That's basically two weeks straight, critical plays where we had a miscommunication or whatever the case may be". The Jets stopped the Raiders just before the two-minute warning and forced a Marquette King punt.
