"We want to make sure we are building a product that everyone can use", said David Limp, Amazon's senior vice-president of devices and services, during a Wednesday event showcasing the company's holiday product line-up at its Seattle headquarters.

In addition to the new Echo, Amazon also announced a new device called the Echo Connect, which connects to your home phone line and turns your Echo into a speaker phone.

Tech giants Amazon and Google have publicly clashed after access to YouTube was removed from Echo Show, the latest iteration of Amazon's voice-controlled assistant devices.

There were also three additional Echo devices that were announced: Echo Connect, Echo Buttons and the Echo Spot.

Available in the United States today for $US100, the new Echo's main improvements come in the form of second generation far-field microphones for more accurate voice recognition.

The Echo Spot is a new take on the smart alarm clock.

Alexa can talk to you and play music directly on Echo Spot through the built-in 2-watt speaker. The device is also available to preorder in the United Kingdom and Germany, and ships with an included Philips Hue smart bulb. They are the first of the Alexa Gadgets and are deigned to provide users with a physical way to interact with other Echo devices.

Echo Plus orders in advance begin September 27 and the device will be available October 31. Amazon is also claiming improved sound which would be a welcome improvement as I find the original Echo to be decent at best for the price.

Amazon's suite of Echo devices, including the Echo and Echo Dot, has outsold the voice-controlled Google Home, according to research firm eMarketer. It also comes packaged with a single Hue bulb and features Zigbee support for $150. Talking about the new Amazon Echo, it is the successor to the original Echo debuted in 2014. Echo Spot will be available in the United Kingdom and Germany early 2018. It comes in black and white and will sell for $129.99 and will be available in December. It is designed as a replacement for a home phone and enables users to make free calls in the United States via Echo speakers.
