Trump calls Las Vegas shooting suspect 'sick' and 'demented'

On Sunday night, a gunman in a Las Vegas hotel opened fire on a music festival before shooting himself to death.

- It was the sound of rapid fire gunshots that sent Las Vegas concertgoers running for their lives.

Stephen Paddock was found dead on his hotel room in Mandalay Bay, where the shooter of the mass killing was located. "Which can be added to an AR-15, which essentially makes it mimic automatic weapons and it's legal", Sen.

The topic of guns is always a sensitive subject, especially after mass shootings. Trump also praised Las Vegas police, saying they had done an "incredible job".

"In the wake of this tragedy, I hope we'll all be able to take the time to look for the helpers and that each of us, in our own way, will seek to help our nation heal, move forward, and work to prevent similar tragedies", Raja Krishnamoorthi, Democrat Congressman from 8th district IL, said.

Four years ago, after the deadly school shooting in Newtown, a bipartisan bill on background checks failed in the Senate.

"Now is the time for all of us to rise to the occasion and stand with Las Vegas", Jones said.

The Firearm Owners' Protection Act of 1986 says civilians are not allowed to own newly manufactured machine guns. The devices are legal to purchase and allow semi-automatic rifles to fire like fully automatic ones.

The Clark County Sheriff said the ATF is evaluating the weapons to determine exactly what was changed.

Bump stocks are legal and manufactured by various companies.

But this much is obvious: America has plenty of guns - by one estimate, more than 300 million - and too few limits on who can buy, use and carry them around. Many firearms advocates - but not all - are opposed to even the most basic gun control legislation, as they view that as a slippery slope that would eventually result in infringement on their constitutional rights.

Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., who protested President Trump's moment of silence on Monday, says regulating gun modification devices is one instance where Congress can take action on gun control.

Instead, Ryan and other GOP leaders urged prayers to unify the country and said a positive way to respond to the shooting is to donate blood. "It wasn't a mass shooting, it wasn't a terrorist attack, according to our PRESIDENT the one and only Donald Trump, it was a miracle", one tweet pointed out.

"That Bill is not scheduled now", House Speaker Paul Ryan told reporters, referring to a measure that also includes language making it more hard to classify certain ammunition as "armour piercing".

Classifying a firearm as an automatic depends on whether the gun itself is firing rounds automatically.
