Bauer tapped to start game 1 for Indians

Friday, 06 Oct, 2017

Thursday it looks like the Indians got a better deal while the Yankees were fleeced by the A's.

The New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians will come together at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Thursday night for Game 1 of their MLB Playoffs 2017 AL Division Series. He stuck around. The 2016 season marked the first time Bauer was on the same team - and around numerous same teammates - for more than three seasons. Indians manager Terry Francona wants his ace, Corey Kluber, to pitch on normal rest in a potential Game 5 against the Yankees, so he's having his ace start the second game of the series.

Chad Green came out of the bullpen to put on a tourniquet with two big strikeouts to end the inning.

Adam Warren finished the inning without further damage, but was reached for a run in the fifth on Bruce's sacrifice fly.

The Cleveland Indians play the New York Yankees in the postseason for the first time since 2007. "That was really important to Kluber, and that was really the only way we could do it", Francona said on Tuesday afternoon. "He had his life on his fastball".

"I was excited about the lead early in the game, but I couldn't get too excited".

NY is 5-0 in their last 5 games against the AL Central and 1-5 in their last 6 playoff games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall.

Bauer stopped the Bronx Bombers in their tracks.

Bauer ended the sixth by striking out Judge for the third time on a pitch over the inside corner with Hicks stranded on third. The final four teams in the AL include the #Ny Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros.

After Robertson's 3 ⅓ innings of work, manager Joe Girardi then handed the ball to Tommy Kahnle who would cruise through 2 ⅓ innings to finally give the ball to flamethrower Aroldis Chapman in the 9th, a spot he is definitely used to. "He's one of the best, if not the best pitcher in the league".

However, if Sabathia gets shelled and the Yankees lose, well, they were going up against Kluber and probably would've lost even if CC gave up just a few runs. "Look what we did past year with maybe 1 ½ starting pitchers". "You guys got nothing to hang your heads about".

"You just try to go out and perform well. So, I think it's good". The Twins went into the bottom of the first with a 3-0 lead, feeling good... and then Ervin Santana took the mound.

The Indians will certainly be favored, and they should be.

James was a longtime Yankees fan before allegedly switching his allegiance to the Indians.

Jay Bruce produced the bulk of the offense for Cleveland. He was acquired on August 9 in a trade with the Mets. Bauer tipped his cap to the crowd before being congratulated by his teammates.

Tuesday night kicked off the Major League Baseball playoffs with a pretty fun game between the Yankees and the Twins.

"It will be curious to see how Bauer reacts in that", Pluto said.

"It was like I was on the team but didn't feel like I was contributing, which is a awful feeling for any competitor", he said.

"Three 17-game winners that we're throwing out there and I don't think any other team in baseball's got that".

He's doing his part now.

The Yankees Game 1 starter was expected to be either Sonny Gray or Masahiro Tanaka after Severino's Wild Card clunker.

The 37-year-old Sabathia went 14-5 with a 3.69 ERA this season.

After dealing with a knee injury in the second half, left-hander Andrew Miller might not be able to fill the workhorse role he did last postseason - 10 appearances, 19 1/3 innings - but it's safe to say the Indians will employ last year's ALCS MVP as often as possible.
