Jim Harbaugh names starting QB for Saturday's game at Indiana

Tuesday, 10 Oct, 2017

The Crimson Tide staved off a rally at Texas A&M to retain the No. 1 ranking with 57 of 65 first-place votes. "It's a team game - we've all got to play better".

I wrote about it earlier this morning but it is worth repeating here: The Irish might be the most underappreciated team in the country.

This week, #3 Oklahoma stumbled losing at home to unranked Iowa State. Korn completed 18 of 26 passes against Purdue and threw one touchdown. Those ground-shaking numbers, but are indicative of a defense that was exposed. The last time Michigan State went to the Big House, it shocked rival Michigan by returning a botched punt snap for a touchdown on the last play of the game when the Wolverines were just trying to run out the clock.

Up next: The University of MI (4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) is at IN at noon Saturday on ABC. At Oregon State, Minnesota had a fourth-quarter drive that was 15 plays (all rushes), covered 77 yards and lasted a whopping 9:24. The Huskies remained in the prime No. 4 spot on my ballot after beating Cal, 38-7. He has thrown for 307 yards and a touchdown. That's meant 2013 MI rushing for negative-48 yards against the Spartans, but in 2017, it meant MSU taking a 14-3 lead before the bottom fell out, then allowing one 33-yard touchdown drive while just standing on the brake pedal the rest of the way.

Alabama and Clemson once again are in the top two spots.

The Penn State Nittany Lions took care of business on Saturday with a dominating 31-7 victory at Northwestern.

The quicker picker-upper: They didn't make huge gains, but a handful of teams did move up a notable number of positions. The Badgers are 65 points behind TCU in the AP Poll (33 ahead of Washington State) but are 14 points ahead of the Horned Frogs in the Coaches Poll. The Spartans have beaten Iowa and MI in back-to-back games.

Indiana's last victory over the Wolverines came 14-10 in 1987.

Think different: Four new teams cracked my ballot. The Wolverines are 1-4 against Michigan State and Ohio State under his watch, but they are 23-3 against everybody else.

Based on the Odds Shark website's collected odds, the Wolverines are -11 favorites to win on the point spread, or anywhere from -420 to -450 favorites on the moneyline. Madre London rushed for 59 yards on 10 carries and also caught two passes for 19 yards and a score.

TCU was a big victor from the upsets of Oklahoma and MI over the weekend, advancing two spots, to No. 6, in the AP Poll and three steps upward, to No. 7, in this week's Coaches Poll.

Can you hear me now?: The season began as last season ended --discussing the demise of the SEC as the alpha among conferences. It just takes time. There is a very good chance this team is 12-0 when they arrive for the Big Ten championship.
