Jaguars vs. Steelers: Picks, predictions and odds

Saturday, 13 Jan, 2018

Prediction: I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Jaguars found a way to win this one, but beating the Steelers twice on the road in one season is a hell of a task and that quarterback battle is quite lopsided.

Roethlisberger has played in 20 playoff games, while the Jags' win last week vs. Buffalo was Bortles first playoff appearance.

"I don't think anybody can say that [about the Jaguars' defense]", said Tomlin.

The Steelers do not care about Jacksonville's defensive prominence.

Are The Steelers Distracted?

Roethlisberger's Steelers have lost only three regular-season games this year, but their loss to the Jaguars - a 30-9 drubbing at home in Week 5 - has certainly been on his mind for the intervening weeks. The Jaguars will look to continue that surprising stretch of success this Sunday when they visit the Steelers in the divisional round. New England, Alabama, Giants under Coughlin, Vikings under Mike Zimmer, Jim Harbaugh and the Niners.

"I've had season tickets the whole time and this will be my first time going to an away game, and a playoff game at that", Odom said.

"You guys ask me about the comparison to the Broncos [defense]", Jackson said. Here's his quote, "I'm not going to go out there, get the ball 400 times if I'm not getting what I feel I'm valued at". Pittsburgh has one mission, and that is to defeat the Patriots and get to the Super Bowl, and they certainly will not let the Jaguars get in their way in the Divisional Round.

So, that means that if the Jaguars keep the deficit to fewer than nine points in games on the season, they are 10-0. Whether or not the Jaguars showed blitz, Roethlisberger kept throwing to his first read, frequently forcing throws to Brown. If you don't hoist up that hardware, it doesn't matter if you're a top-5 defense if you're not doing good enough in January. Take out that opening bomb, and Brown gained just 108 yards on the 18 other passes thrown his way.

Mitchell made his comments during an interview with The MMQB's Greg Bishop for a story about the Steelers' defense rallying around linebacker Ryan Shazier, who suffered a spinal injury during the December 4 game at Cincinnati. But is that scenario in Jacksonville's best interests or exactly what Pittsburgh wants to see unfold?

Bortles will have full complimentary of receivers when Jacksonville's travels to Heinz Field.

Opponents are loading up against the run because they have little respect for Bortles and a banged-up receiving corps that features two rookies. The Pittsburgh defense also gave up 181 yards on the ground to rookie running back Leonard Fournette. Yet again, Roethlisberger should expect to find himself under duress thanks to the Jacksonville pass rush. It's critical that Jacksonville does not abandon the run if the game is close.

Throughout the week, each side has taken some shots and gotten in on the chirping.

The Jaguars continued that run against the Bills on Sunday.

Fournette is facing more stacked lines of scrimmage than any running back in the league. Ben Roethlisberger threw five interceptions. The wild-card game is the only time these two teams played in the postseason.

He managed just 87 yards through the air against the Bills last week and though he made up yards with his legs, he will need to be better to topple an improved Pittsburgh outfit.

In the regular-season meeting, he was intercepted a career-high five times by the Jaguars.

Bortles came into this season leading the league in turnovers with 55 over the past three years. This writer has been on the Jacksonville-train since the early part of the season.

Fournette and Bell don't lose fumbles often.
